Lovable vs Bolt.new in 2026: I Built the Same App on Both - Here's What Happened
TL;DR
Both tools work. Lovable produces cleaner, production-ready code and handles full-stack features better. Bolt.new starts faster and needs zero setup. For a SaaS MVP: Lovable. For a landing page or quick prototype: Bolt.new.
The Test Setup
I used the exact same prompt on both platforms:
“Build a SaaS landing page for a project management tool called TaskFlow. Include: a hero section with headline and CTA, three feature cards, a pricing table with 3 tiers (Free / Pro / Business), an email waitlist signup form connected to a database, and a FAQ section. Use a dark theme with purple accents.”
Rules:
- 45 minutes per tool, starting from loading the homepage (not from an existing account)
- No editing the prompt mid-session
- Same laptop, same internet connection
- Judged on: output quality, time to working result, code quality, deployment ease
Lovable
Setup time: ~4 minutes. Lovable requires a GitHub connection before you can start - this is both its limitation (slight friction) and its strength (your code lives in a real repo from day one).
What it built: The first generation took about 90 seconds and produced a complete React + Supabase app. The hero section looked polished, the pricing table was properly structured with a highlighted “recommended” tier, and the waitlist form was wired to a Supabase table automatically.
What broke: The FAQ accordion didn’t animate on mobile. Minor. Fixed in one follow-up prompt: “Make the FAQ accordion animate smoothly on mobile” - done in 30 seconds.
Code quality: Surprisingly clean. Components are properly separated, TypeScript is used throughout, and the Supabase integration uses the correct client pattern.
Deployment: One click from inside Lovable to a lovable.app subdomain. Custom domain connection available on paid plans.
Time to working result: 12 minutes to a deployable app.
Bolt.new
Setup time: 0 minutes. No account. No GitHub. You open the URL, type your prompt, and it starts building. This is genuinely impressive for getting started.
What it built: A clean static landing page in React. The hero, features, and pricing sections looked good. However, the “waitlist form” was static HTML with no backend - Bolt generated a form that submitted to nowhere and showed a fake success message.
What broke: The backend. When the prompt asked for a waitlist connected to a database, Bolt.new defaulted to a frontend-only implementation without being clear about this. The pricing table also had minor layout issues on mobile.
Code quality: Clean React components. No TypeScript by default (you have to ask for it). No real backend without additional configuration.
Deployment: Also one click, to a stackblitz.io subdomain. Clean and fast.
Time to working result: 8 minutes to something that looks like a working app. 20+ minutes to get actual database functionality (required switching to a Supabase setup guide and manual integration).
